~ Fall 2017 limited edition ~

It's been a dream of mine to craft and offer a botanical first aid formula rooted in Brazilian soil. One carrying a story that would express my profound gratitude and respect for the wisdom of the plants of my land & that would also celebrate the connection and love for my own people. I believe I did it, we did it!

I started crafting this formula with the guidance of a special person in my life, from brainstorming to gathering the plants and drying them ...  But we ran out of time and agreed that would be best to finish it when I returned to US. Thank you, Luiza! I invite you to read more about her here.

Both Brazilian Arnica and Chenopodium were harvested from my parents garden and friends land, respectively. Cordia and Copaiba came from herbal shops in my hometown that support fair trade and sustainability. For this formula I used Brazilian arnica, also known as "fake arnica" which can be found naturally in rupestrian regions, high altitude fields with rocky soils and dry air. They can literally be found anywhere and their healing properties resemble the ones of the well know Arnica and are used similarly by my folks.

Arnica Montana flowers were added during the final process as a poetic license, but mainly because I couldn't gather flowers of its Brazilian counterpart since I was there during the winter months (July and Aug.) and they flower in spring (March and April).

Indigenous inspired medicine for the contemporary heart

What a honor to work with Copaiba! Its oil has a long history of health promotion among the indigenous people of Amazon. Earthy, exotic, sensual and warm, Copaiba is a vital tree that supports the body, mind & spirit. Among the traditional people it was often used for reflection and introspection while supporting focused attention and tranquility, promoting emotional healing on all levels. Topically, it is a potent anti-inflammatory, antibacterial + antiseptic remedy that is very cooling + soothing. Used along with Cordia, Chenopodium Ambrosioides and Arnica it becomes a traditional first aid formula, one that our ancestors relied on for prosperous and vibrant day to day health.

I fell in love with Cordia this time around... Cordia plant is very prevalent along the southeastern coast of Brazil and has long held a place in alternative medicine as an effective anti-inflammatory for internal and external use for various types of inflammatory diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis, sciatica, bruising, fibromyalgia, rheumatism, the list goes on... In the Brazilian Amazon forest, indigenous tribes usually prepare an infusion with the leaves for the treatment of infections of all types.

This is my oil of choice to treat bruises on myself and my children. Both oil and salve are very nourishing and moisturizing to the skin... Sometimes I find myself adding a bit to my pulses and temples for an olfactory experience.

I sincerely hope you welcome these creations with an open heart and embrace the healing potential they carry within.
