One of the daily rituals among the Ashaninka people of Acre, north Brazil, is to adorn their faces with plant pigments in the morning, after a bath in nature. They use Urucum to paint their skin with shades varying from deep red to medium, light orange, depending on the maturity of the fruit. Their paintings provide most needed sun protection, but mostly they are personal and meaningful self expressions - used in love ceremonies or in preparation for war. Their paitings tell their story.
Inspired by the beauty and mystery of the Ashaninka culture I formulated the Urucum Ritual Balm. Use as a lip or cheek tint, adorn your eyes, paint your body, inviting the vital force of the forest or simply welcoming the subtleties of the moment, creating your own story.
KEEP IN MIND: despite its deep red shade, it actually delivers an orange tint. Each skin tone is unique and it will affect the final 'color' which could vary from light red to bright orange. Re-apply as needed.
Other traditional uses of Urucum: insect repellent!
